Buenos Aires - Lionel Messi gives an indication that he wants to retire from the Argentine national team after the 2022 World Cup. The Albiceleste coach, Lionel Scaloni, doesn't want to worry about that.
The Qatar 2022 World Cup will be Messi's fifth World Cup in his career. The event is also considered to be the last major competition that La Pulga participated in at the international level.
Yes, Messi hinted to stop playing for the Argentine national team after the World Cup ended. This was revealed ahead of the match against Venezuela last weekend.
"I can only think about what will happen next, I only think about facing Ecuador. After the World Cup, I have to rethink a lot of things," said Lionel Messi, quoted by the Mirror.
Lionel Scaloni, as the coach of Argentina, spoke about the speculation that Messi would retire after the Qatar 2022 World Cup. He thought there was no point in discussing it and would rather enjoy playing La Pulga while he can.
"After playing in the World Cup, everyone makes judgments. I don't want to know what they think," said Scaloni.
"In any case, you have to enjoy it. You don't have to think about the future, just enjoy their spectacular gifts."
"Sometimes, because that's life, a person gets old and I think that's normal. But why not think about the spectacular in the here and now? Why not enjoy it now? There is no point in thinking about what will happen after the World Cup," said Lionel Scaloni.
Lionel Messi previously retired from the Argentine national team in 2016, before finally deciding to return. The Paris Saint-Germain star has already presented a Copa America 2020 title for his country.
